Located between Peso da Régua and Vila Real, the Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura offers breathtaking views over the Douro River. From the top you can see the terraced vineyards so characteristic of our Douro region. It is located at an altitude of around 640 meters, and from the summit you can see the regions of Armamar, Tabuaço, Sabrosa, among other places that paint the landscape. At this viewpoint you can also see a chapel, where local festivities take place at the end of August. It also has a picnic area, where you can be in communion with nature.
The São Salvador do Mundo Viewpoint is located on the road that runs from São João da Pesqueira to the Cachão Dam. It is made up of ten Chapels dating mostly from the 16th century. On the day of Corpus Christi, local festivities take place in these little chapels that rise along the hill. It has an altitude of 493 meters and has a steep slope towards the Douro River. From this viewpoint it is possible to see the mountains that appear on the horizon, the dam of Valeira and the historic Cachão da Valeira.
Located in the village of Casal de Loivos, there is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro. In the landscape of the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos one can observe the vineyards, which are already a symbol of the Douro panorama; and in the center of the landscape is the Douro river, which curves before the mountains, fields and villages. Fauna and flora are also constant and outstanding elements. BBC London considered this viewpoint to have “one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world”.
The Santo António Viewpoint is located next to the city of Peso da Régua. It is located in the parish of S. Pedro de Loureiro, and has an altitude between 315 and 330 meters. It is possible to see the city of Régua, we can also see the three bridges that characterize the city, and in the distance is the Bagaúste Dam, where the boats that travel to Pinhão pass. The landscape is mainly dominated by the green of the vineyards that fill the slopes.
The Viewpoint of Penedo Durão is located on the right bank of the Douro River, 2 km from the village of Freixo de Espada à Cinta. It is possible to see a dazzling panorama of the Douro River, surrounded by different species of fauna and flora. It is located on the edge of the Spanish Saucelle dam and the mouth of the Spanish Huebra river. This viewpoint has a balcony and a stone access staircase, from where it is possible to see the schist mountains that surround it. It is also a privileged place to watch birds.
